How could a poster on an internet forum destroy someone's faith?

Exactly! Take responsibility for your own actions and choices. It's your faith...you decide whether you believe or not. And if you stop believing...that is YOUR decision, based on information you decided was worth considering.

No one can destroy someone elses faith. Just more blaming on behalf of those poor defensless christians who can't even protect their own faith in their own mind. They have to blame someone else for their lack of being able to maintain it.

To destroy someones faith IS a heavy responsibility, and can give them all kinds of problems, hence it needs to be done sensitively and slowly, and the judgement needs to be carefully made as to whether it should be done at all.

I'm not interested in destroying someone elses faith. I don't walk up to random people and start questioning their faith. I only discuss it with people who want to discuss it. So I don't need to think about trying to do it sensitively or slowly or using my judgement. If THEY choose to have a discussion about god with me...that is up to them. Their faith is THEIR problem. Not mine. And I am not responsible for them gaining or loosing faith. It's theirs to do with as they wish.

To be offended because drug companies are running a for-profit businesses is silly.

Who's offended. I'm just talking about keeping them honest...because ANY business that strives to make a profit can become corrupt and dishonest.

And from what I have read, neither Tal or metaron are saying that you shouldn't do any treatment. They appear to me to be saying do that AND try other things. Keep your mind open to other possibilites. And lets try and keep big pharm honest. Where is the harm in that? Or should pharm be permitted to do what ever they like and NOT be accountable to the public they claim to be helping? If their drugs cause problems, is it because they have not tested them properly? What is the excuse when it does go wrong?

does anyone know why the watchtower named their bible the new world translation of the holy scriptures?

it's been awhile since i have even had any of their books in my home, and most of the time i don't think about it.

i don't know why, but when i think of that title, the phrase new world order keeps popping up in my mind..

I think the problem is with pharmaceutical companies. They have a huge conflict of interest. They make a hell of a lot of money out of what they do. Which can in no way guarantee that what they produce is the best result for us...but it does guarantee it is the best result for them...always.

This is where the distrust comes in. Then when you add into that scenario hospitals being privately owned and operated...profit based businesses. And insurance companies that also want to make a profit, that makes health care a lethal combination of big corporations who's main priority is to make money.

Distrust is huge...and so it should be. They need to be kept under scrutiny to keep them honest. They are businesses not charities.

I would not say cancer research is worthless by any means...but, it should always be questioned.

Even government funded hospitals should be answerable to the public for where the money goes and what they are doing...because things like this still happen. Even when it is not profit based.

So this thread is about 'someone' but we don't know who. picking on new posters?

I agree...thats rank. But I'm not convinced that is happening that much that it warrants a thread about it. I mean seriously. Just tell a mod if it's that bad. And address the issue directly instead of beating around the bush like this thread has done.

All I've seen on this thread is....this is not ok...but oh, I don't mean you. And that is not ok...but I respect these posters...

Sometimes I REALLY wish people would get to the point so we know what we are REALLY talking about?

ARE we talking about brand new posters being shot down in flames? Is that it? I mean, one minute I'm being told to 'google' and when I ask for clarification of exactly WHAT we are talking about. The next thing I know, I'm being told by another poster that I don't understand (which I had already stated myself), and we are talking about THIS forum. Well why would I want to google then if it's about THIS forum?

Honestly, who are these people being horrible to new posters? I must have missed it. I have seen it when a JW apologist arrives on the scene. But most people end up having quite good discussions with them. Often the atheists seem more tolerant with JW apololgists I might add. The on the fencers seem to have a lot less tolerance for JW apologists, which is a shame because its a great way to discuss doctrines and see the ridiculousness of them all.

Or am I still wrong, and we are talking about respecting, and challenging peoples faith.....nicely?

pming other members of this site asking for money is unacceptable and will not be tollerated under any circumstances, especially if it seems like you are targeting someone who seems to be especially kind and maybe a little old.

that is low.. if you do this, you will be classified as a scammer and your account deleted.

i don't care what the reasons given are.. if someone offers money then fine although i'd warn anyone against falling for sob-stories they read on the internet.

For this they are ridiculed and publicly made fun of. I have seen it. I don't see the necessity of humiliating people, other than to make the poster feel superior. Why isn't making your case without ridicule enough? Do you need the ego boost you get from making fun of someone? Maybe the moment you left the dubs, you figured everything out and got it right, hooray for you; have a little consideration for those that haven't.

I would love to know exactly who you are referring to that is doing this? You're getting on your high horse and giving everyone a good old telling off aren't you? And in quite a ridiculing way I might add.

The threads where I see people being the rudest to one another are political threads and conspiracy threads. But thats my opinion. And even then not all of it is rude. Just the occasional post. And it goes in all directions. I wouldn't say it is one sided by any means...and I can honestly say I don't care.

Who are these posters that are being humiliated anyway?

When I first began posting on this forum I never looked at political threads. Partly because I wasn't interested, and mostly because it is all American politics. So I didn't bother. But I do look occasionally to see if there is anything of interest. Which normally, for me there isn't.

The 'conspiracy threads are where I really see people calling other people nuts. And again, all sorts of people and those people making their cases for conspiracies are far from wilting violets...they come out fighting and holding their ground.

Are these the people you are referring to? Or is it just the spiritually inclined you fear for because of their sensitive natures and touchy offense triggers.

This is very much the victim mentality I am referring to...there was no 'attack' there was just disagreement.

Why do people have to overstate the facts and exaggerate to try and get sympathy? No one is persecuting or attacking anyone. It is a discussion forum. she was voicing her opinion...just as you and everybody else are.
